Cannes to Saint-Tropez journey: local notes and planning
The Riviera's most famous village, without the traffic stress
Saint-Tropez is only about 80 kilometres from Cannes, yet it is the journey that visitors most often underestimate. The road is beautiful, but it is single-track for long stretches, shared with beach traffic and delivery vans, and it can take twice as long on a summer weekend as it does on a quiet morning in spring. A private chauffeur turns that road into part of the holiday. This page explains the route, the timing, where we take you, how events affect the journey and how to book.
The route from Cannes to Saint-Tropez
The journey starts on the A8 motorway heading west past Mandelieu and through the Estérel, then leaves the motorway near Le Muy to cross the hills toward the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The alternative is the coastal road through Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël and Sainte-Maxime, which is slower but offers sea views. In good conditions the trip takes about one hour and fifteen minutes.
Why timing matters so much
Saint-Tropez works on a rhythm. Lunch at the beach clubs runs from around one o'clock, the village fills in the late afternoon and the harbour is busiest at aperitif time. Leave Cannes mid-morning to arrive before the rush, or travel in the early evening for a late dinner.
Where we take you
In the village, we drop at the Vieux Port, the Place des Lices, whose market runs on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, and the pedestrian streets around the Citadelle. Outside the village, the beaches of Pampelonne and their clubs, the hilltop villages of Ramatuelle and Gassin, and the hotels around the Gulf all have their own access roads. We also serve Port Grimaud, Cogolin, Sainte-Maxime and the villas of the surrounding hills.
Beach clubs, restaurants and pick-ups after dark
Many guests spend the day on Pampelonne and want a driver who is ready at the end. Tell us the club and the time, and we will wait nearby, or collect you after dinner when taxis are almost impossible to find. For late returns to Cannes, the quiet night road is much smoother, and you can rest in the car.
Events and busy weeks
Saint-Tropez has its own calendar. The traditional Bravade festival in May brings crowds and closed streets, the sailing regatta known as Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez takes over the harbour in late September and early October, and the peak of summer from July to mid-August is the busiest period of all. During these weeks, our fare stays the same.
